Pierre Magistretti

Pierre Magistretti, médecin et neurobiologiste est actuellement Doyen de la Division de Biologie et Sciences de l’environnement à King Abdullah University of Science and Technology en Arabie Saoudite. Il est également Professeur Emérite à l’Université de Lausanne et à l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne au sein de laquelle il a dirigé le Brain Mind Institute de 2005 à 2012. De 2004 à 2013, il a été le Founding Director du Centre de Neurosciences Psychiatriques de l’Université de Lausanne et du Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV).

Ses travaux ont contribué à la découverte des mécanismes cellulaires et moléculaires fondamentaux du métabolisme énergétique cérébral, notamment ceux qui sont à la base du couplage entre l’activité neuronale et la consommation d’énergie par le cerveau et de certains mécanismes de la plasticité neuronale et de la neuroprotection.

Il est l’auteur de plus de 250 articles et de trois livres, dont deux co-écrits avec François Ansermet qui traitent de la plasticité neuronale et des bases neurobiologiques de l’inconscient, “A chacun son cerveau” et “Les énigmes du plaisir”, et un avec Yves Agid concernant les cellules gliales, « L’homme glial » tous publiés aux éditions Odile Jacob.

Pierre Magistretti a reçu la médaille Camillo Golgi, le Goethe Award de la Canadian Psychological Association, le prix Theodore-Ott de l’Académie Suisse des Sciences Médicales et le prix de la Fondation IPSEN. En 2007 – 2008 il a occupé la Chaire internationale au Collège de France. Il est membre élu de l’Academia Europeae (Physiologie et Médicine), ainsi que membre ‘ad personam’ de l’Académie Suisse des Sciences Médicales. Depuis 2014 il est Président de l’International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO).

François Ansermet

Professeur honoraire à l’Université de Genève et de Lausanne, après avoir été directeur du Département Universitaire de Psychiatrie à la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Genève, professeur ordinaire de pédopsychiatrie et chef du Service de psychiatrie de l’enfant et de l’adolescent aux Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève.

Précédemment, il a été aussi professeur ordinaire de pédopsychiatrie à l’Université de Lausanne, vice-doyen de la Faculté de biologie et médecine, médecin chef au Service universitaire de psychiatrie de l’enfant et de l’adolescent au Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV). Par ailleurs, il est psychanalyste, membre de l’Association Mondiale de Psychanalyse.

Ses activités de recherche portent sur les liens entre neurosciences et psychanalyse, autour de plasticité neuronale et même inconscient, dans le cadre de la Fondation Agalma à Genève, avec entre autres deux livres publiés sur ce thème avec Pierre Magistretti : « A chacun son cerveau » et « Les énigmes du plaisir » aux éditions Odile Jacob ; sur les traumatismes prénataux ou néonataux, en lien translationnel avec la neurobiologie, en particulier dans le programme national NCCR-Synapsy, mis en place à l’initiative de Pierre Magistretti ; sur les conséquences des avancées nouvelles des biotechnologies dans le champ des procréations médicalement assistées et de la médecine prédictive préconceptionnelle ou prénatale, avec entre autres un livre publié chez Odile Jacob, « La fabrication des enfants, un vertige technologique »; sur les variations du développement sexuel et la clinique transgenre.

Depuis 2013, il est membre du Comité Consultatif National d’Ethique à Paris

Grégoire Courtine

Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, spécialiste de l’étude et des approches réparatrices des lésions de la moëlle épinière

Grégoire Courtine a été formé en mathématiques et en physique, mais il a obtenu son diplôme de doctorat en médecine expérimentale à l’Université de Pavie, en Italie, et l’INSERM Plasticité et Motricité, en France, en 2003.

De 2004 à 2007, il a occupé un post-doctorat à l’Institut de recherche sur le cerveau de l’Université de Californie à Los Angeles (UCLA) sous la supervision du Dr Reggie Edgerton, et il a été associé de recherche pour la Fondation Christopher et Dana Reeve (CDRF).

En 2008, il devient professeur adjoint à la faculté de médecine de l’Université de Zurich où il établit son propre laboratoire de recherche.

En 2012, il a été nommé professeur associé à l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) où il dirige son propre laboratoire de recherche spécialisée dans la réparation de la moelle épinière. Il est membre du Centre de neuroprothèses et du Brain Mind Institute.

Il a publié plusieurs articles proposant des approches innovantes pour réparer les lésions de la moëlle épinière, approches qui ont été largement discutées dans la presse nationale et internationale. Récemment, il est parvenu à transférer ses résultats chez des patients paraplégiques.

En 2013, il a lancé la startup GTXmedical qui a pour objectif de transformer ces résultats en un traitement pour la paraplégie.

Richard Frackowiak

Neurologue et ancien doyen-directeur de l’Institut de Neurologie, Queen Square à l’University College London, spécialiste de l’imagerie cérébrale et de la maladie d’Alzheimer. Codirecteur du Human Brain Project.

Richard Frackowiak est professeur ad hominem et ancien chef du Département de neurosciences cliniques à l’Université de Lausanne (UNIL) et au Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV). Il est également titulaire d’une chaire de professeur à l’EPFL. Il est un des promoteurs du projet européen “Human Brain Project“. Un pionnier de l’imagerie du cerveau humain, sa production scientifique est fortement citée et récompensée par des prix internationaux.

Professeur fondateur du Département de neurosciences cliniques à l’Université de Lausanne et du Département de la neurologie cognitive à l’University College London (UCL), où il est professeur honoraire. Il a dirigé l’Institut de neurologie de UCL à Queen Square, et a été vice-recteur de cette université. Il a aussi dirigé le Département d’études cognitives (DEC) à l’École Normale Supérieure (Ulm) de Paris.

Il est membre des Académies de Médecine du Royaume-Uni, de France, de Belgique et des États Unis, membre de l’Academia Europaea et associé étranger de l’Académie polonaise des sciences. Il a été président de l’Association britannique de neuroscience et de la European Brain and Behaviour Society. Ancien conseiller scientifique auprès du Directeur général de l’INSERM, il a aussi présidé la commission des IHU. Il est membre de la commission IDEX du Programme d’Investissements et de diverses autres commissions d’évaluation internationales.

Nancy Cattan

Après avoir obtenu son doctorat en sciences de la vie à l’Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis, Nancy Cattan a d’abord été chercheur au Centre Anticancéreux A. Lacassagne, à l’Inserm U145 et à l’Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis, avant de devenir journaliste scientifique.

Elle a donc commencé sa carrière de journaliste en 2002 en tant que Rédactrice en chef du Magazine Seniors de 2003 à 2006.

Collaboratrice régulière de Nice Matin depuis 2003, elle devient Chef de Rubrique Santé de Nice Matin et Var Matin en 2013.

Bruno DUBOIS

Bruno Dubois est professeur de Neurologie à l’Université de La Sorbonne à Paris.

Il est le Chef du Service des Maladies Cognitives et Comportementales à l’hôpital de La Salpêtrière, Directeur de l’Unité de Recherche à l’ICM. Il coordonne plusieurs centres de références nationales Maladies rares (centre ‘Démences rares et précoces’; centre ‘malades Alzheimer jeunes’) et le Centre d’Excellence des Maladies Neurodégénératives de Paris (CoEN).

Il a publié sur la neurochimie du cerveau chez l’animal et chez l’homme, sur la neuropharmacologie, la neuropsychologie et les biomarqueurs des patients avec troubles cognitifs et démences.

Il a dirigé un groupe d’experts internationaux (l’International Working Group – IWG) à l’origine d’une nouvelle conception et définition de la maladie d’Alzheimer.

Il est membre de l’Académie de Médecine et Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.

Pierre Magistretti

Pierre Magistretti, doctor and neurobiologist is currently Dean of the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia. He is also Professor Emeritus at the University of Lausanne and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, where he ran the Brain Mind Institute from 2005 to 2012. From 2004 to 2013, he was the Founding Director of the Centre for Psychiatric Neurosciences of the University of Lausanne and of the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV).

His work has contributed to the discovery of fundamental cellular and molecular cells of the brain energy metabolism, notably those that are the basis of the pairing between neuronal activity and energy consumption by the brain and certain mechanisms of neuronal plasticity and neuroprotection.

He is the author of more than 250 articles and three books, two of which are co-edited with François Ansermet on neuronal plasticity and the neurobiological bases of unconsciousness, “A chacun son cerveau” and “Les énigmes du plaisir”, and one with Yves Agid regarding glial cells “L’homme glial”, all published by Odile Jacob.

Pierre Magistretti has received the Camillo Golgi medal, the Goethe Award of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Theodore-Ott Prize of the Swiss Academy of Medical Science and the IPSEN Foundation Prize. In 2007 – 2008, he held the International Chair at the Collège de France. He is an elected member of the Academia Europeae (Physiology and Medicine), as well as an ‘ad personam’ member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. He has been the Chairman of the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO) since 2014.

Bruno DUBOIS

Bruno Dubois is a Professor of Neurology at Sorbonne University in Paris.

He is the Head of the Department of Cognitive and Behavioural Diseases at the Salpêtrière Hospital, Research Unit Director at the Brain & Spine Institute (ICM). He coordinates several centres of national references on rare diseases (the centre for “Rare and Early Dementias”; the centre for “young people with Alzheimer’s disease”) and the Paris Centre of Excellence for Neurodegenerative Diseases (CoEN).

He has published on the topic of animal and human brain neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, neuropsychology and biomarkers of patients with cognitive disorders and dementia.

He led the International Working Group (IWG) that spearheaded a new conception and definition of Alzheimer’s disease.

He is a member of the Academy of Medicine and Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Richard Frackowiak

Neurologist and former Dean and Director of the Queen Square Institute of Neurology in London, specialist in brain imagery and Alzheimer’s disease. Co-director of the Human Brain Project.

Richard Frackowiak is a Professor ad hominem and former Head of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and at the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV). He also holds a Chair as Professor at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL). He is one of the promoters of the European project “Human Brain Project“. A pioneer in human brain imagery, his scientific contribution is often mentioned and rewarded with international prizes.

Founding Professor of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Lausanne and the Department of cognitive neurology at the University College London (UCL), where he is an honorary Professor. He has run the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and was vice-rector of this University. He has also run the Department of Cognitive Studies (DEC) at the École Normale Supérieure (Ulm) in Paris.

He is a member of the Academies of Medicine of the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and of the United States, a member of the Academia Europaea and foreign associate of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was chairman of the British Association of Neuroscience and of the European Brain and Behaviour Society. Former scientific advisor to the managing director of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and has presided the commission of University Hospitals Institutes (IHU). He is a member of the Commission for Excellence Initiatives (IDEX) of the Investments’ Program and of various other international evaluation commissions.

François Ansermet

Honorary Professor at the University of Geneva and the University of Lausanne after having been Director of the University Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva, Lecturer in child psychiatry and head of Department of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Geneva University Hospitals.

He previously lectured child psychiatry at the University of Lausanne, was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, Chief Doctor at the University Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University Hospital of Lausanne. He is furthermore a psychoanalyst and member of the World Association of Psychoanalysis.

His research activities concern the relationship between neurosciences and psychoanalysis, on the topic of neuronal plasticity and unconsciousness as part of the Agalma Foundation in Geneva with, among other things, two books published on this topic with Pierre Magistretti “A chacun son cerveau” and “Les énigmes du plaisir” published by Odile Jacob ; regarding prenatal or neonatal trauma, in translational connection with neurobiology, in particular in the national program NCCR-Synapsy implemented upon Pierre Magistretti’s initiative; regarding the consequences of further progress in biotechnologies in the field of medically-assisted procreation and preconceptional or prenatal predictive medicine between, among other things, a book published by Odile Jacob, “La fabrication des enfants, un vertige technologique”; regarding variations of sexual development and transgenderism.

He has been a member of the National Consultative Committee of Ethics in Paris since 2013.

Grégoire Courtine

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, specialist in the study and approaches to the repair of spinal cord injuries

Grégoire Courtine was originally trained in Mathematics and Physics, but received his PhD degree in Experimental Medicine from the University of Pavia, Italy, and the INSERM Plasticity and Motricity, in France, in 2003.

From 2004-2007, he held a Post-doctoral Fellow position at the Brain Research Institute, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) under the supervision of Dr. Reggie Edgerton, and was a research associate for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (CDRF).

In 2008, he became Assistant Professor at the faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich where he established his own research laboratory.

In 2012, he was nominated Associate Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) where he directs the International Paraplegic Foundation (IRP) chair in spinal cord repair at the Centre for Neuroprosthetics and the Brain Mind Institute.

He published several articles proposing radically new approaches for restoring function after spinal cord injury, which were discussed in national and international press extensively. Recently, he managed to use his results on paraplegic patients.

In 2013, he launched the start-up GTXmedical, whose goal is to turn these results into a treatment for paraplegia.

Nancy Cattan

Science journalist, Nice Matin.

After obtaining her PhD in life sciences at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, Nancy Cattan was initially a researcher at the A. Lacassagne Cancer Centre, at the Inserm U145 and at the University Nice Sophia-Antipolis, before becoming a scientific journalist.

She thus started her career in journalism in 2002 as Editor-in-Chief of the Senior Magazine from 2003 to 2006.

A regular contributor to Nice Matin since 2003, she became Head of the Health Section of Nice Matin and Var Matin in 2013.

David Szekely

Psychiatre hospitalier à Monaco, après un cursus universitaire à Paris et à Grenoble, le Docteur David Szekely présente une thèse de médecine sur la stimulation magnétique en psychiatrie.

Il s’est impliqué dans la recherche clinique sur l’électroconvulsivothérapie (ECT) et la stimulation magnétique transcrânienne (rTMS ) ou la stimulation à courant continu.

Il participe comme formateur au diplôme inter-universitaire ECT et rTMS à Lyon et Bordeaux, et collabore à plusieurs ouvrages collectifs sur ces techniques de neuromodulation non invasives appliquées aux troubles psychiatriques.

Il est l’actuel représentant de la section STEP (Stimulation Transcrânienne En Psychiatrie) de l’AFPBN (Association Française de Psychiatrie Biologie et Neuropsychopharmacologie), et membre de la TASK Force pour l’électroconvulsivothérapie de l’Association mondiale de Psychiatrie Biologique (WSFPB).

Kévin Polet

Kévin Polet est Neuropsychologue au Centre Mémoire et dans l’Unité de Recherche Clinique du Centre Rainier III (Chef de service Pr Alain Pesce) du Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace de Monaco.

Il est également doctorant en Neuropsychologie au sein du laboratoire LAPCOS de l’Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis, sous la direction de Galina Iakimova.

Ses principaux travaux de recherche portent sur les mouvements oculaires impliqués dans la cognition sociale (reconnaissance d’émotions faciales, empathie, Théorie de l’Esprit) dans le vieillissement normal, les pathologies neurodégénératives (maladie d’Alzheimer, maladie de Parkinson et Dégénérescence Lobaire Fronto-Temporale) et dans les différents phénotypes de la Sclérose en Plaques. Il s’intéresse également à l’apport de la vidéo-oculographie motrice (eye-tracking) pour le diagnostic précoce de la Paralysie Supranucléaire Progressive et de la Sclérose en Plaques.

Il a élaboré un programme de stimulation cognitive sur tablette tactile et un programme de psychoéducation destiné aux aidants de personnes souffrant de pathologies neurodégénératives.

Auparavant, il a travaillé en service de psychiatrie, de neurologie, de soins de suites et de réadaptation, ainsi qu’en unité de soins aux cérébrolésés, dans des structures civiles et militaires.

Depuis 2014, il est membre de l’Organisation Nationale des Pychologues Spécialisés en Neuropsychologie.

David Szekely

Hospital Psychiatrist in Monaco, after his university degree in Paris and Grenoble, he presents his medical thesis on the magnetic simulation in psychiatry. He involved himself in the clinical research of Electro convulsivotherapy (ECT) and in the Transcranial Magnetic Simulation (rTMS ) or the continuous power stimulation.

He participates as an instructor for the inter-university diploma ECT and rTMS in Lyon and Bordeaux, and collaborates on multiple collective publications on these specific technics of non-invasive neuromodulation implemented on psychiatric disorders.

He is the actual representative of the TSIP section (Transcranial Stimulation in Psychiatry) of the FABPN (French Association of Biological Psychiatry and Neuropsychopharmacology), and member of the TASK Force for the Electro convulsivotherapy of the Worldwide Association Biological Psychiatry (WABP).

Kévin Polet

Kévin Polet is a Neuropsychologist at the « Centre de la Mémoire » and in the Clinical research unit « Centre Rainier III » (Head department: Pr Alain Pesce) at the “Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace de Monaco”.

He is also a doctoral student in Neuropsychology in the LAPCOS laboratory of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, under the direction of Galina Iakimova.

His main research works concerns the ocular movements implicated in the social cognition (acknowledgement of facials emotions, empathy, spirit theory) in the normal ageing, neurodegenerative pathologies (Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, including Lobaire Fronto-Temporale degeneration) and finally in the different phenotypes of the Multiple Sclerosis. He also has his interests in the video-oculography (eye tracking) for the early diagnostic of the Progressive Supranuclear Paralysis and of the Multiple Sclerosis.

He has elaborated a cognitive stimulation program on tactile tablet and a psychoeducation program intended to help people suffering from neurodegenerative pathologies.

Previously, he has worked in psychiatry, neurology and rehabilitation units, as well as in a brain-damaged care unit, in a civilian and military structure.

Since 2014, he’s a member of the « Organisation Nationale des Pychologues Spécialisés en Neuropsychologie » / National Organisation of Psychologist Specialised in Neuropsychology.
